Abstract

An existing centralized CAPWAP (control and provisioning of wireless access points) architecture and a distributed key management IEEE802.11r protocol cannot be achieved simultaneously compatibly. The invention provides a CAPWAP architecture access controller and a key management method thereof. The access controller controls at least one wireless access point (AP1-3) and is characterized by comprising at least one key management module (VAS1-3) which is in one-to-one correspondence to the wireless access points and used for managing IEEE802.11 protocol family based keys of a subscriber station (MS mobile station) accessed from the wireless access points. IEEE802.11r availability and key management safety robustness can be achieved in the centralized CAPWAP architecture simultaneously. The controller is kept compatible with standardized CAPWAP and IEEE 802.11r equipment and has good prospects.
