Abstract

A system and method for text-to-speech conversion. A method of performing text-to-speech conversion on a portable device includes identifying a portion of text for conversion to a speech format, wherein the identifying includes performing prediction based on information associated with a user. When the portable device is connected to a power source, text-to-speech conversion is performed on a portion of the text to generate converted speech. The converted speech is stored in the storage device of the portable device. A reader application is executed wherein a user request for a narration of a portion of the text is received. During said execution, the converted speech is accessed from the storage device in response to a user request and presented to the user.
