[0015] In general, the present disclosure is directed to techniques that can use information from different modality groups to determine whether two or more individuals are in physical proximity to each other and, in some cases, whether individuals are likely to be associated with the same event. For example, example modalities may include geolocation, audio fingerprinting, proximity detection, and calendar data. Each modality can provide some information about the proximity of one individual to another. In some examples, a modality may further indicate events that may be associated with an individual. In different situations, different modalities may provide more or less precise information indicating whether individuals are within a physical presence of each other.

[0016] In one example, multiple users may be within physical presence of each other. Additionally, each user may own a mobile computing device, such as a smartphone. Each smartphone can provide information as...

Abstract

In one example, a method includes receiving a first group of indications associated with a first group of modalities and a second group of indications associated with a second group of modalities. The method also includes determining a confidence value for at least one modality of the first or second groups of modalities based at least in part on an indication associated with the at least one modality. The confidence value may indicate a likelihood that a first user associated with the first remote computing device is within a physical presence of a second user associated with the second remote computing device. The method may also include, performing an operation to indicate that the first user associated with the first remote computing device is within a physical presence of the second user associated with the second remote computing device.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application No. 61 / 598,771, filed February 14, 2012, which is hereby incorporated in its entirety. Background technique [0003] Computers and mobile devices have become increasingly interconnected due to the widespread availability of wired and wireless connections to communication networks such as the Internet. Users can share information with each other using Internet-based communications. For example, users using an Internet-based communication connection can share photos, messages, and other electronic resources with each other. Traditionally, in order to share electronic resources with others, a user must know another user's contact information, such as email address, phone number, social network identifier. If the user wishes to share information with one or more unidentified users with whom the user shares a common experience, obtaining such contact information may be a time-con...
