[0050] figure 1 The structure of a lighting system 4 of a vehicle 3 having a headlamp and a discharge lamp lighting device 1 according to the first embodiment of the present invention is shown. The lighting system 4 includes: a discharge lamp 2 serving as a headlamp; a discharge lamp lighting device 1 for driving the discharge lamp 2; and a 12V DC (direct current) power source 6 connected to the discharge lamp lighting device via a switch 5 1. Alternatively, the discharge lamp lighting device 1 may be installed in a headlamp.

[0051] figure 2 is a circuit diagram of the lighting system 4 . The discharge lamp lighting device 1 includes a power converter 7 that converts the power supply voltage (V) of the DC power source 6 into a voltage required for the discharge lamp 2 . The controller 8 controls the power converter 7 to drive the discharge lamp 2 . The detector 9 outputs a detection value required by the controller 8 .

[0092] FIG. 10 shows a circuit diagram of a discharge lamp lighting device 10 according to a second embodiment of the present invention. The same reference numerals are assigned to the same or similar components as those of the discharge lamp lighting device 1 according to the first embodiment, and repeated description will be omitted. The discharge lamp lighting device 10 performs control to limit either or both of the maximum electric power value and the duration period of the maximum electric power value when hot restart of re-lighting is performed in the state in which , the time period from when the discharge lamp 2 is turned off until it is turned on again is short, and the temperature of the discharge lamp 2 is higher than the reference temperature (for example, 25° C.).

[0093] Since the discharge lamp 2 is lit with lower electric power at the time of hot restart than at the time of cold start, the discharge lamp lighting device 10 determines the temperature of the di...

[0108] The discharge lamp lighting device according to the third embodiment is intended to solve a problem that occurs when the maximum power value is set to a value near the lower limit value Wmin1 (first power value) required to start lighting of the discharge lamp 2 ; and the ambient temperature is approximately near the upper limit value of the circuit of the discharge lamp lighting device of the first embodiment. That is, it is intended to solve the problem that, for example, in the case where the electric power applied to the discharge lamp 2 is smaller than the lower limit value, a lighting failure or extinction of the discharge lamp 2 occurs. The structure of the discharge lamp lighting device is the same as that of the discharge lamp lighting device 1 of the first embodiment, and description will be made using the reference numerals of the components of the discharge lamp lighting device 1 .

Abstract

A discharge lamp lighting device includes a power converter configured to receive a power from a power source, convert it into a voltage required by a discharge lamp and supply the voltage to the discharge lamp; and a controller which controls the power converter to drive the discharge lamp. The controller controls the power supplied to the discharge lamp according to a predetermined power curve. The controller controls the power curve to change based on at least one of a source voltage of the power source, an ambient temperature, a device temperature, a discharge lamp temperature and a discharge lamp voltage, and sets a sustained period of a max power value to a predetermined time period when the lighting of the discharge lamp is performed in a state where the discharge lamp temperature is equal to or less than a reference temperature.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a discharge lamp lighting device for driving a discharge lamp including a high intensity discharge lamp (HID lamp) such as a metal halide lamp, a headlamp and a vehicle including the discharge lamp lighting device. Background technique [0002] HID lamps are used in vehicle applications due to their high brightness. Since it is important for the vehicle to ensure early visibility, it is necessary for the discharge lamp to rapidly increase the luminous flux when it is started. Conventionally, a discharge lamp lighting device achieves a rapid increase in luminous flux by, for example, supplying electric power (hereinafter referred to as maximum power) that is too large compared to the rated electric power when the discharge lamp is started. After starting, the discharge lamp lighting device drops power along an exponential power curve to steady-state power (see, for example, Japanese Patent No. 2946384 and Japanese Paten...
