Embodiment Construction

[0018] The present invention is a modular terminal assembly for a wireless process transmitter or actuator. The junction box assembly includes a junction box and a terminal module, both of which are configured to fit within the sealed enclosure of the wireless transmitter. Choose a junction box to match the specific design of the wireless transmitter, and a terminal block to match the desired power source. The junction box and terminal block operate together to receive and condition power from this power source for use by field devices.

Abstract

Module terminal assembly for wireless transmitters. A terminal module is configured to fit inside an internal power container in a housing of a process field device and includes: a wired power connection, power conditioning electronics, and a field device connection. The wired power connection is configured to receive power from an external source. Power conditioning electronics are capable of conditioning power from a wired power connection for reception by industrial field devices. The field device connection is configured to provide conditioned power by the power conditioning electronics to the process field device via terminals configured to receive and mate with the internal power supply.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to industrial process field devices and, more particularly, to modular terminal assemblies for wireless process variable transmitters. Background technique [0002] The term "field device" includes a broad range of process control and monitoring devices that measure and control parameters such as pressure, temperature, and flow rate. Many field devices include a transceiver that acts as a communication relay between an industrial process variable sensor and a remote control or monitoring device, such as a computer. For example, the output signal of a sensor is often insufficient to effectively communicate with remote control or monitoring equipment. Field devices solve this problem by receiving communication from the sensor, converting that signal into a form that is more efficient for longer distance communication (e.g., a modulated 4-20mA current loop signal, or a wireless protocol signal), As well as sending...
