Problems solved by technology

First, targets may be visually occluded, thus making it difficult to see if the correct target has been selected
Second, since the objects may be of small size, it is possible to select more than one object, thus causing ambiguity, which in turn leads to wrong object acquisition

Embodiment Construction

[0018] review

[0019] Various embodiments enable object disambiguation and correction. In one or more embodiments, goal disambiguation includes entering a mode in which an attempt is made to disambiguate one or more goals that have been selected by a user, and an exit mode that exits goal disambiguation. Entry mode can be triggered in many different ways, including, by way of example and not limitation, multiple target acquisitions, selection wait times, combinations of multiple target acquisitions and selection wait times, and the like. For example, multiple targets may be acquired when a user's finger overlaps two or more targets, for example in a touch screen environment. For example, selection latency can occur if the user's finger lingers on one or more touch-selected objects for too long, such as two seconds or more.

Abstract

Various embodiments enable target disambiguation and correction. In one or more embodiments, target disambiguation includes an entry mode in which attempts are made to disambiguate one or more targets that have been selected by a user, and an exit mode which exits target disambiguation. Entry mode can be triggered in a number of different ways including, by way of example and not limitation, acquisition of multiple targets, selection latency, a combination of multiple target acquisition and selection latency, and the like. Exit mode can be triggered in a number of different ways including, by way of example and not limitation, movement of a target selection mechanism outside of a defined geometry, speed of movement of the target selection mechanism, and the like.

Description

Background technique [0001] On various screens, such as touch screens and others, the target a user is attempting to acquire may sometimes be smaller than the footprint of the facility through which the user is attempting target acquisition. For example, in a touchscreen scenario, the target may be smaller than the user's fingertip. This can cause problems. First, the target may be visually occluded, thus making it difficult to see if the correct target has been selected. Second, since the objects may be of small size, it is possible to select more than one object, thus causing ambiguity, which in turn leads to wrong object acquisition. Contents of the invention [0002] This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are also described below in the detailed description. This Summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used as an aid in determining th...
