Embodiment Construction

[0019] Aspects of the invention are disclosed in the following description and associated drawings, which relate to specific embodiments of the invention. Alternative embodiments may be devised without departing from the scope of the present invention. Additionally, well-known elements of the invention will not be described in detail or will be omitted so as not to obscure the relevant details of the invention.

[0020] As used in this application, the word "exemplary" means "serving as an example, illustration or illustration". Any embodiment described in this application as "exemplary" is not necessarily to be construed as preferred or advantageous over other embodiments. Likewise, the term "embodiments of the invention" does not require that all embodiments of the invention include the discussed feature, advantage or mode of operation. Furthermore, the term group communication, push-to-talk (PTT) or similar variants as used in this application refers to a server mediation...

Abstract

This application relates to group communication via Multimedia Broadcast-Multicast Service MBMS. E-MBMS services can be used to distribute multicast data to groups and can facilitate group communication systems. However, in traditional E‑MBMS services, the time to establish a new stream is on the order of 10 seconds. Such delays are unacceptable for high performance group communication systems (eg, push-to-talk systems that require less than 1 second from call initiation from the originator to permission to speak to at least one group member). This problem is solved by pre-reserving the multicast stream for media streaming in such a way that the media stream can be set up quickly. In addition, another multicast stream (which is "persistent") is used as a kind of application layer paging stream to indicate activity on the media stream. The user device monitors the paging stream (Multicast Stream #1 ) related to the activity of the group communication (Call Notification), and after receiving the Call Notification message, switches to the corresponding media stream (Multicast Stream #2).

Description

[0001] Priority required under 35 U.S.C. §119 [0002] This patent application claims priority to Provisional Application No. 61 / 491,815, filed May 31, 2011, entitled "GROUP COMMUNICATIONSOVER EVOLVED MULTIMEDIA BROADCAST / MULTICAST SERVICES," which is assigned to the assignee of this application , this provisional application is hereby expressly incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present application relates generally to communications and, more particularly, to techniques for supporting group communications over broadcast and multicast services in cellular communications systems. Background technique [0004] A cellular communication system can support two-way communication for multiple users by sharing available system resources. Cellular systems differ from broadcast systems which are primarily or only capable of supporting one-way transmission from the broadcast station to the user. Cellular systems are widely deployed to provide various communicati...
