Embodiment Construction

[0021] This disclosure generally relates to performing decoding at a decoder. To provide a thorough understanding of the present disclosure, certain illustrative embodiments will now be described, including a decoder that decodes codewords by updating symbol values over a number of iterations. However, those of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that the systems and methods described herein can be adapted and modified for the application in question, and that the systems and methods described herein can be employed in other suitable applications, and such other additions and modifications without departing from its scope.

[0022] figure 1 An illustrative communication system 100 is shown for LDPC decoding based in part on sign inversion, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure. The communication system 100 is used to transmit information from a transmitting user or application 102 to a receiving user or application 130 . Transmitting users or appl...

Abstract

Embodiments of the invention generally relate to sign-inverting decoders for non-binary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. In particular, systems and methods for decoding data are provided. A decoder takes data related to a symbol and identifies a plurality of candidate values for the symbol. The decoder determines a distance between each of the plurality of candidate values and a reference value associated with the symbol to obtain the plurality of distances, and the decoder determines whether to update the value of the symbol based at least in part on the plurality of distances.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. §119(e) to U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 / 694,163, filed August 28, 2012, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] The background description provided herein is for the purpose of generally presenting the context of the disclosure. The work of the inventors herein, the extent of the work described in this background section, and aspects of the description that would not otherwise qualify as prior art at the time of filing, are neither expressly nor implicitly identified as prior art for this disclosure. [0004] The present disclosure relates generally to data decoding, and more particularly to decoders for data encoded with a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) encoder. [0005] LDPC codes and decoders for decoding LDPC codes can be used in many applications and devices. For example, data storage, satellite communicatio...
