Abstract

Provided are a tension member for an airbag, and an airbag device which are configured so that a tensile force can be continuously controlled using a simple configuration. An airbag device is provided with an airbag (2) which is usually folded and which is inflated and expanded in an emergency, an inflator (3) which supplies gas to the airbag (2), a retainer (4) which affixes the airbag (2) and the inflator (3), and a tension member (5) for an airbag, the tension member controlling the shape or the function of the airbag (2) by a tensile force. The tension member (5) for an airbag has: both end sections (51) which are connected to portions capable of moving relative to each other when the airbag (2) is inflated and expanded; an expanded-width section (52) which is formed at an intermediate section between both end sections (51); and a breaking section (53) which is formed along the direction of extension of the expanded-width section (52) and which breaks depending on the magnitude of a tensile force occurring between both end sections (51).
