Abstract

Provided is a charging device for charging an in-vehicle battery, which is capable of acquiring the power supply capability of an external power supply, determining a charging start time, and completing charging by a charging completion time set by a timer. The charging device (10) comprises: AC-DC converter (13) for converting an AC power supplied from an external power supply (93) to a DC power; an AC relay (8b) for connecting and disconnecting the external power supply (93) to and from the AC-DC converter (13); a DC relay (31) for connecting and disconnecting the AC-DC converter (13) to and from a battery (4); a timer; and a controller (18). The user sets a charging completion time by the timer (9). After the charging completion time is set, the controller (18) closes the AC relay (8b) and specifies the power supply capability of the external power supply (93). The controller (18) then determines a charging start time from the specified power supply capability and the charging completion time. The controller (18) is restarted at the determined charging start time and starts charging.
