Abstract

The invention discloses a method for realizing set-top box program update through an NIT (Network Information Table) version number. The method comprises the following steps: I, inserting a private descriptor into a first cycle of a front-end code stream NIT table; and II, resolving the NIT table: acquiring data of the whole NIT table from a front end by using a set-top box, finding out the inserted private descriptor from the NIT data according to a description specification, resolving a version number corresponding to a valid NIT table, and storing the new NIT version number in a corresponding FLASH area of the set-top box to realize NIT program update normally. Compared with the prior art, the method has the advantages that the problem of repeated update of the set-top box since a plurality of NIT tables exist at the same frequency point of a broadcasting front end and the version numbers of the NIT tables are different is solved. By adopting the method, program update can be performed under the condition of the plurality of NIT version numbers. Moreover, the update method is efficient, safe and reliable, and is convenient to operate and maintain.
