Embodiment Construction

[0017] One embodiment is a system that generates at least two haptic signals from the same input or source. These two haptic signals represent haptic effects to be played on two different target haptic output devices. The system multiplexes / encodes these signals into a single multiplexed haptic signal stream that is sent to the haptic playback device. At the haptic playback device, the signal is demultiplexed / decoded and based on the type of haptic output device the appropriate haptic signal is played on the device.

System 10 includes a touch-sensitive surface 11 or other type of user interface mounted within housing 15 and may include mechanical keys / buttons 13 . Inside the system 10 is a tactile feedback system that generates vibrations on the system 10 . In one embodiment, vibrations are generated on the touch surface 11 .

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to systems and methods for demultiplexing haptic signals. A system receives a multiplexed signal in which two or more different types of haptic signals are encoded. Each type of haptic signal represents a haptic effect for a different type of haptic output device. The system determines a target haptic output device located on the haptic playback device. The system demultiplexes the multiplexed signal into a haptic signal corresponding at least to a type of target output device. The system provides demultiplexed haptic signals to a target haptic output device.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 907,138, filed November 21, 2013, and Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 874,920, filed September 6, 2013, each of which The contents of the application are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] One embodiment is directed to a haptically-enabled device. More specifically, one embodiment is directed to a system for multiplexing or demultiplexing haptic signals to produce haptic effects. Background technique [0004] Manufacturers of electronic devices strive to produce rich interfaces for users. Traditional devices use visual and auditory cues to provide feedback to users. In some interface devices, kinesthetic feedback (such as active force and resistance feedback) and / or tactile feedback (such as vibration, texture, and heat) are also provided to the user, commonly known collectively as Either "haptic fe...
