The spectrum sensing method comprises three stages, wherein in the calculating stage, a cognition starting user calculates a communication number of the cognition starting user and acquires communication numbers of other cognition starting users in the communication radius range of the cognition starting user; in the selecting stage, descending sorting is carried out on the cognition starting user and other cognition starting users in the communication radius range of the cognition starting user according to the communication numbers so as to form an ordered set and a candidate sensing user is selected from the ordered set; in the verifying stage, whether the selected candidate sensing user can meet real-time performance of sensing information is verified. According to the spectrum sensing method, equipment cost of secondary users in the cognitive radio network is effectively reduced, complexity of equipment of the secondary users and energy consumption generated when the secondary users carry out spectrum sensing are reduced and moreover, the real-time problem of the spectrum-sensed information is considered.
