The term battery as used herein is used to denote any rechargeable electrochemical energy storage device comprising one or more electrochemical cells. The battery configurations of the present disclosure can be applied to a variety of batteries such as, but not limited to, lithium ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, nickel metal hydride batteries, nickel manganese cobalt batteries, lithium sulfur batteries, and lithium air batteries. Such batteries can be used in transportation, aerospace, military and stationary energy storage applications. An advantage of the rechargeable battery of the present disclosure is that the internal resistance of the battery can be changed in a progressive manner according to the temperature of the battery.
