[0031] The described embodiment of the invention is a winding device for placing coil windings on stator teeth. After the coil windings are placed on the stator teeth, the stator teeth are arranged to be mounted on the stator back iron to form the stator. The stator forms part of an electric motor or generator, wherein the electric motor is preferably used in a wheel. But motors can be used for any purpose. The motor is of the type in which the stator is radially surrounded by a rotor carrying a set of magnets for attachment to the wheel. The definition of electric machine is intended to include generators. Furthermore, the electrical machine winding device is suitable for electrical machines with a rotor mounted centrally in radially surrounding coils.

Abstract

An arrangement for mounting a coil winding on a stator tooth comprises a mounting element having first, second, third mounting arms for receiving a first, second third stator teeth and a second mounting arm for receiving respectively second stator tooth , wherein the mounting arms are relatively movable to be orthogonal and a second position where they are parallel. Winding means mount electrical conductor coils on the respective stator teeth using a continuous conductor when the mounting arms are orthogonal allowing easy winding access; the arms being moved to the parallel position to allow easy removal of the wound teeth with their interconnected windings from the mounting arms, the interconnect tooth winding assembly being mounted to the stator back iron. Tooth insulation is disclosed along with the method of securing the teeth to the projections formed on the core. Channels formed in the tooth insulation allows potting material to pass between the tooth and the stator back iron to secure the tooth thereon. The material is received in cooperating recess in the facing surfaces of tooth and back iron.
