Abstract

The invention provides a liquid crystal patch antenna with variable electrically turning ranges, the manufacturing method and the application method thereof. The antenna comprises an antenna radiator, a liquid crystal dielectric layer and a variable dielectric layer. The liquid crystal dielectric layer is located right beneath the antenna radiator. The variable dielectric layer is located right beneath the liquid crystal dielectric layer. The antenna radiator is a microstrip side-fed rectangular patch; the liquid crystal dielectric layer is a liquid crystal material which utilizes bias voltage to control the dielectric constants. The variable dielectric layer is a medium plate with varied dielectric constants dependant on specific conditions. According to the invention, the electrically turning range of the liquid crystal patch antenna can be leveled up or down for specific requirements through the adoption of different variable dielectric layers.
