Embodiment Construction

[0014] Exemplary devices, systems, and techniques for determining an amount of wear of a brake disc stack of a brake assembly are described herein. In some examples, a brake wear measurement system includes a transmitter, and a passively powered sensor system including a controller and a sensor. The transmitter and at least the sensor of the sensor system are mounted on the brake assembly such that the transmitter and the sensor can be configured to move relative to each other when stack wear occurs on the brake disc. For example, one of the transmitter or sensor may be mounted on a carrier and may remain stationary as the brake disc stack wears, and the other transmitter or sensor may be configured to follow the brake disc stack as wear occurs. The disc stack moves together (e.g. wear pins or pressure plates on the disc stack).

[0015] The transmitter and the sensor may be electrically connected to each other without wires. In some instances, when the transmitter and senso...

Abstract

The invention relates to brake disc stack wear measurement. In some examples, a brake wear measurement system includes an emitter configured to emit a signal and a passive powered sensor system including a controller and a sensor configured to sense the signal emitted by the emitter. The emitter and the sensor of the sensor system are mounted on the brake assembly such as the emitter and the sensor may be configured to move relative to each other as the brake disc stack wears. Thus, a characteristic of the signal emitted by the emitter and sensed by the sensor may change as a function of the brake disc stack wear. The brake wear measurement may further include a processor configured to receive the output generated by the sensor and determine, based on the output, an amount of wear of the brake disc stack assembly.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to vehicle braking systems, such as aircraft braking assemblies. Background technique [0002] Brake components of an aircraft or another vehicle have a limited useful life due to wear and may have associated operating and maintenance costs based upon actual use of the brake component and the life of the brake component being consumed speed. Due to varying external factors and varying frictional forces during a braking event, different brake components will have different rates of wear over time. Contents of the invention [0003] Devices, systems, and techniques are described herein for determining the amount of wear of a brake disc stack of a brake assembly, such as an aircraft brake assembly. In some examples, an actuator wear measurement system includes a transmitter configured to transmit a signal, a passively powered sensor system including a controller, and a sensor configured to detect the signal transmitted b...
