Abstract

A photosynthesis regulatory protein mutant lpe1 is screened from an Arabidopsis thaliana mutant library by inventors, a gene LPE1 (AT3G46610), of which codes contain a chloroplast protein of a PPR (pentatricopeptide repeat) structure field, is cloned through molecular identification, and the condition that the LPE1 participates in the light effect regulation and control of Arabidopsis thaliana is confirmed; two LPE1 interference strain lines and one homozygous deletion mutant strain line are obtained by using a forward genetics method, and the condition that the afunction of the gene LPE1 causes the developmental retardation of plants and the decrease of maximum photosynthetic efficiency is discovered; and more importantly, the protein LPE1 has sequence conservation in other crops, and the condition that functions of the LPE1 in the other crops may also be of conservation is prompted, so that crops with high photosynthetic efficiency are advantageously obtained through regulating and controlling the LPE1 by means of genetic engineering.
