The portable wheel diameter measuring device comprises a housing, a display unit, and a data processing unit, a positioning unit, a one-dimensional translational mechanism, a one-dimensional positioning sensor and a one-dimensional ranging sensor which are arranged inside the housing, wherein the one-dimensional translational mechanism can do rectilinear translation to drive the one-dimensional ranging sensor to do rectilinear movement; the positioning unit is used for positioning the portable wheel diameter measuring device on the circumferential surface of a wheel to be measured, so that a measuring point of the one-dimensional ranging sensor is positioned on an arc, a line segment formed by the maximum stroke of the one-dimensional translational mechanism is vertical to the axial direction of the wheel to be measured, and a connecting line between the midpoint of the line segment and the circular center of a rolling circle is vertical to the line segment; the one-dimensional positioning sensor is used for measuring the movement direction of the one-dimensional translational mechanism.
