Embodiment Construction

[0014] Like numbers refer to like elements throughout the drawings, and the various features are not necessarily drawn to scale. In the following discussion and claims, the terms "coupled", "couple", "couples" or variations thereof are intended to include indirect or direct electrical connections or combinations thereof. For example, if a first device couples to or with a second device, that connection may be through a direct electrical connection or through an indirect electrical connection via one or more intervening devices and connections. Several embodiments or implementations are described below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements and various features are not necessarily drawn to scale.

[0015] First refer to Figure 1 to Figure 3 , shows a system 100 that includes a grid-connected three-phase AC power source 102 and associated feeder lines that provide AC to AC input phase lines A, B, and C of...

Abstract

The present invention relates to precharging devices for power conversion systems. A power conversion system, method, and pre-charging system for charging a DC bus capacitor are disclosed, comprising: a thyristor and a reverse diode coupled in an AC circuit path between an AC input line and a rectifier; a charging resistor, the pre-charging resistor coupled in one or more of the AC circuit paths; and a controller for turning off all thyristors to allow the DC bus capacitor to pass through the pre-charging resistor for charging and for turning on all thyristors when the DC bus voltage reaches a non-zero threshold.

Description

technical field [0001] The subject matter disclosed herein relates to power conversion, and more particularly, to power converters and precharging methods and apparatus for power converters. Background technique [0002] During power-up of the active front-end rectifier, the DC bus capacitors and any input filter capacitors are charged. This pre-charging may cause high inrush currents, which may stress or degrade components of the power conversion system. Excessive inrush current flow can also trip the system's circuit breakers. Attempts to reduce pre-charge inrush current include using large contactors or circuit breakers, but this adds cost, size and weight to the conversion system. Some precharge circuits also include complex switching logic to precharge the DC bus capacitors and any filter capacitors. Contents of the invention [0003] Various aspects of the disclosure are summarized below to facilitate a basic understanding of the disclosure, where the summary is n...
