Abstract

A surgical device for use in ostomy surgery includes an introducer and a dilator configured for atraumatic insertion into a tissue opening. The dilator includes an elongated body and an extension movably connected to the elongated body. A distal portion of the elongated body is disposed within the introducer and is axially movable relative to the introducer between a first position and a second position. The extension portion is configured to move from a contracted state to an expanded state in response to the dilator moving relative to the introducer from the first position to the second position. In the contracted state, the extension portion is seated within the introducer, and in the expanded state, the extension portion protrudes laterally outward from the distal portion of the elongate body .
