Embodiment Construction

[0035] Broadly speaking, embodiments of the present technology provide a latch circuit configured to store / latch data when power has been disconnected or turned off. A latch circuit configured to latch data includes at least one correlated electronic switching (CES) element comprising correlated electronic material (CEM). The CES can be used both as a nonvolatile memory device and as a circuit element that can achieve circuit connectivity. As explained in more detail below, a CES element includes a material that can transition between predetermined detectable storage states based at least in part on transitioning the material (at least a portion of the material) between a conductive state and an insulating state. The CES element is programmable, allowing it to store configurations in a non-volatile manner and use its impedance state for connectivity.

Abstract

According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, an apparatus is provided. The apparatus comprises a data input to receive a data signal. The apparatus further comprises a latching circuitry. The latching circuitry comprises a first Correlated Electron Switch(CES) element and a second CES element. The latching circuitry further comprises a control circuit coupled to the first CES element andthe second CES element. The control circuit is configured to program impedance states of the first CES element and the second CES element based on the data signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to data storage circuits, and more particularly to latching circuits including associated electronic switching (CES) elements. Background technique [0002] A flip-flop or latch is a circuit that has two stable states and can be used to store state information. Such circuits are commonly used as data storage elements. A single latch stores one bit of data as long as the latch circuit is powered. Also, whenever the enable signal is asserted, the output of the latch circuit changes based on the input. Typical latch circuits are volatile, that is, data stored in the latch circuit is lost when power to the latch circuit is removed. Conventional techniques for enabling a latch circuit to hold data include coupling the latch circuit with its own independent power supply to the holding latch. In this technique, the data stored in the latch circuit is copied to the holding latch when the power to the latch circuit is cut off....
