Abstract

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for controlling multiple gateway devices in a smart home system. The method comprises the following steps: obtaining, by the gateway devices, device information corresponding to the gateway devices in a local area network by transmitting role negotiation interaction messages in the local area network of the deployed smart home system; detecting rolestates of the gateway devices in the local area network according to the device information corresponding to the gateway devices in the local area network, and obtaining gateway device indication information matching a server role in the local area network; and performing own role state conversion according to the gateway device indication information. By adoption of the method provided by the invention, it can be ensured that the smart home system generates no system crash due to the abnormality of the gateway device whose current role state is the server.
