Abstract

An image sensor of an image capture device can capture images. The captured images may be stored in a buffer of two or more previously captured images. The oldest of the two or more previously captured images may be removed from the buffer. The aggregated images in the images in the buffer can be updated. The updating may include subtracting the representation of the oldest image from the aggregated image and adding the representation of the captured image to the aggregated image. The viewfinder of the image capture device may display a representation of the aggregated image.

Description

Background technique [0001] Creating a synthetic long exposure version of an image captured with a particular exposure length may include applying a digital gain or an analog gain to at least some pixels of the image. In this way, images of low-light scenes may be brightened so that in some cases details of the scene are more easily visible. While this synthetic long exposure image can be displayed on the viewfinder of an image capture device, the displayed image is not an accurate representation of what would result if a real long exposure image were captured. For example, if there is motion in the scene, that motion may appear as blurring or streaking in the real long exposure image, but the motion will likely be less blurry and / or less streaky in the synthetic long exposure image. As a result, users may become frustrated that the image capture device does not accurately represent on its viewfinder the long exposure image that was actually captured. Contents of the invent...
