Embodiment Construction

[0018] In existing implantable medical devices, such as hearing implants that use implanted magnets, compatibility with MRI systems remains challenging, although considerable progress has been made. For example, removable implanted magnets require relatively large surgical incisions at the implant site to remove the magnets, and the silicone pockets holding the magnets lose their shape after only one pair of magnets are removed. Embodiments of the present invention avoid these problems by using magnet clips that slide over the surface of the implanted coil cassette.

[0019] Figure 4A -C shows an implantable medical device arrangement according to one embodiment of the present invention. Implantable coil box 401 is typically made of a biocompatible silicone material and contains communication coils for percutaneous communication of implant communication signals. The magnet container 402 is located at the radial center inside the coil case 401 and has a magnet opening in a s...

Abstract

The present invention relates to an implantable medical device comprising an implantable coil box containing a communication coil. The magnet container is located at the radial center within the coil case, and has a magnet opening on one of a side surface or an inside surface of the coil case. The magnet fitting groove is recessed into one of the side surface or the inner surface of the coil case, and extends from the magnet opening to the outer periphery of the coil case. The U-shaped implant magnet clip has parallel clip legs joined at the closed end of the U, and the implant magnet is attached to one of the clip legs. The coil case and magnet clip are configured to cooperate so that a portion of the coil case fits between the clip leg and the implant magnet to slide through the magnet fitting slot and fit into the magnet receptacle through the magnet opening.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application 62 / 314,430, filed March 29, 2016, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to implantable medical devices, and in particular to removable magnetic elements in such devices. Background technique [0004] Some hearing implants, such as middle ear implants (MEI) and cochlear implants (CI), use cooperating attachment magnets in the implant and an outer portion to magnetically secure the outer portion to the implant. things. For example, if figure 1 As shown in , a typical cochlear implant system may include an external transmitter housing 101 containing a transmitting coil 102 and an externally attached magnet 103 . The externally attached magnet 103 has a conventional disc shape and a north-south magnetic dipole with an axis perpendicular to the patient's skin to generat...
