Problems solved by technology

[0003] In some cases, however, such lightweight panels may have the disadvantage that they are not strong enough to support fixtures (such as sinks, televisions, radiators, fire extinguishers, shelves and anything else that needs to be attached to the panels)
Therefore, the installation process can be time-consuming and expensive
[0007] Additionally, the addition of metal supports or plywood increases the weight and thickness of the bulkhead and / or results in a reduction in cavity wall space
Often the plywood itself must be cut to size on site, thus increasing the time required for installation and potentially causing the release of dust and potentially harmful components

Embodiment Construction

[0044] The invention is now described by way of example only.

[0045] Gypsum plasterboards are prepared from gypsum slurries according to the following method:

[0046] 1. Add polyvinyl acetate (Vinamul 8481 from Celanese Emulsions) to water to form an aqueous suspension;

[0047] 2. Mix glass fiber into the aqueous suspension;

[0048] 3. Add stucco to the aqueous suspension to form a slurry;

[0049] 4. Mix the slurry in a Kenwood mixer (RTM) for 10 seconds at minimum speed;

[0050] 5. Increase the speed and mix the slurry further for 20 seconds;

[0051] 6. Depositing the slurry on the forming surface to form a plate;

[0052] 7. Dry the plate at a temperature of 160°C for 1 hour and further at a temperature of 40°C until a constant weight is reached;

[0053]8. Condition the plate at 23°C and 50% relative humidity until constant weight is reached.

[0054] Table 1 details the composition of the slurry and the density of the board.

[0055] Polyvinyl acetate was ad...

Abstract

A panel has a gypsum matrix, in which the following additives are embedded: glass fibre in an amount greater than 1 wt% relative to the gypsum and a synthetic polymeric binder in an amount greater than 2.5wt% relative to the gypsum. The glass fibre and synthetic polymeric binder are present in a weight ratio of at least 2 parts binder to one part fibre. The amount of sand present in the gypsum matrix lies in the range 0-0.5 wt% relative to the gypsum. The amount of cellulosic fibre present in the gypsum matrix lies in the range 0-2 wt% relative to the gypsum.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of gypsum-based materials, more particularly to the field of gypsum-based boards. Background technique [0002] Lightweight panels such as plasterboard (eg, gypsum plasterboard), polystyrene board, and fiberboard are commonly used to provide partitions within buildings. Advantages for this application include their low weight and quick installation. [0003] In some cases, however, such lightweight panels may have the disadvantage that they are not strong enough to support fixtures (such as sinks, televisions, radiators, fire extinguishers, shelves and anything else that needs to be attached to the panels) . In these cases, the weight of the fixture may cause the fixture (such as a screw) to be pulled out of the panel, causing the fixture to fall from the bulkhead. [0004] Usually, this problem has been solved by providing plywood to increase the fixing strength of the boards. In this case, the plywood is...
