The method comprises steps: when a forwarding table item matched with a to-be-forwarded message is determined, whether the forwarding table item records the index and the identity of an adjacency table item related to the forwarding table item is detected; if yes, the adjacency table item indicated by theindex of the adjacency table item and the identity of the adjacency table item are read; and if the read identity of the adjacency table item is consistent with the identity of the adjacency table item recorded in the forwarding table item, the read adjacency table item is determined as the adjacency table item related to the forwarding table item. By using the method provided by the embodiment of the invention, the adjacency table item searching rate in the case of message forwarding can be improved.
