Embodiment Construction

[0022] The disclosed embodiments will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which some, but not all disclosed embodiments are shown. Indeed, several different embodiments may be described, and these should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments were described so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the disclosure to those skilled in the art.

[0023] The goal of an active isolation system is to achieve little or no amplification at resonance. figure 1 is an example illustration of a system 100 in which disturbance forces are generated and damped, according to an example implementation. System 100 includes a first mass 102 coupled to a second mass 104 by a spring 106 and a bumper 108 . The first mass 102 causes a displacement x of the supporting structure (e.g. dirty body) d , and the system output is the displacement x of th...

Abstract

The present invention relates to systems and tuned magnetic snubbers for using inductors in magnetic skyhook damper isolation. An example system for using an inductor in magnetic ceiling damper isolation includes a first component movable relative to a second component, and a tuned magnetic snubber positioned between the first component and the second component. A tuned magnetic snubber dampens movement of the first part relative to the second part and includes a voice coil coupled to the first part, a magnet coupled to the second part and concentric with the voice coil, and an inductor in series with the voice coil positioned to achieve frequency-dependent damping such that the damping below the critical frequency is greater than the damping above the critical frequency, where ω n is the natural frequency of motion of the first component relative to the second component.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to isolation systems to isolate two parts of a vehicle from motion caused by one of the parts, and more particularly to tuned magnetic dampers for damping motion between components. Background technique [0002] Vibrations transmitted to the payload in the vehicle can cause problems. For example, if the vehicle is a car, vibrations can cause discomfort. If the vehicle is a space launch vehicle, vibrations could jeopardize the mission. Accordingly, isolation systems are often used to isolate the body of the vehicle from the payload to prevent vibrations from being transmitted from the body to the payload. [0003] Isolation systems are well known in the art and include passive, semi-active and active systems. Passive systems utilize passive isolation devices such as mounts and shock absorbers to isolate suspension components from shock and vibration inputs. Passive systems provide adequate isolation, but usua...
