Abstract

A cryotransfer holder for mounting samples held at cryogenic temperatures in an electron microscope is described. The holder comprises a cylindrical Dewar configured to maintain a constant center of mass about the holder axis regardless of the orientation of the Dewar. The holder also includes a sample shutter control mechanism that can be detached from the shutter to reduce vibration during imaging. Also described is a bench for mounting samples into cryotransfer holders at cryogenic temperatures. The stage allows rotation about the axis of the cryotransfer holder to improve access to the sample placement area on the holder and to facilitate easy removal and retrieval of samples after imaging.
