Abstract

A cushion member (10) for use in a pressure support system (2) for delivering a flow of breathing gas to an airway of a patient, the cushion member comprising: - a body portion (12) comprising a firstend (14) and a second end (16) disposed opposite the first end, the body portion defining a passage (18) therethrough; and - a sealing portion (20) structured to sealingly engage about the airway ofthe patient, the sealing portion extending radially inwardly from the first end to an edge portion (22), the sealing portion having a notched portion (30) defined therein which extends outward from the edge portion.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This patent application claims priority under 35 U.S.C to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 431,522, filed December 8, 2016, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to cushion members, such as for patient interface devices. The invention also relates to a pressure support system comprising a cushion member. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a cushion member. Background technique [0004] Many people suffer from disordered breathing during sleep. Sleep apnea (sleeve apnea) is a common example of a sleep-disordered breathing suffered by millions of people worldwide. One type of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which is a condition in which sleep is repeatedly interrupted by the inability to breathe due to blockage of the airways, usually the upper airway or pharynx region. It is generally believed that airw...
