Problems solved by technology

For example, stacks of documents must be manually loaded and unloaded from a stand-alone collider, which takes additional time
Furthermore, the stack must still be manually transported to the document scanner after the unit's work is complete, during which time the leading edge of the document may become misaligned
Additionally, these stand-alone units are themselves expensive, noisy and take up additional office space

Embodiment Construction

[0026] In the following description, various embodiments will be described. For purposes of explanation, specific configurations and details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the embodiments. It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art that the embodiments may be practiced without the specific details. Furthermore, well-known features may be omitted or simplified in order not to obscure the described embodiments.

[0027] Embodiments relate to systems, methods and apparatus for a document scanner with an automatic document alignment system to automatically align the leading edge of a stack of documents prior to scanning. This can be accomplished by having the document scanner with one or more feeder door assemblies (also known as feeder door stops or feeder door elements) configured to enter the The direction of the scanner swings forward and backward repeatedly. This enables the documents within the document stack to slide against ea...

Abstract

Embodiments relate to systems, methods, and apparatus for automatically aligning the leading edge of a stack of documents loaded in a scanner system. The automatic page chopper system includes a feeder gate element (44) that is driven forward and backward in a swinging motion. This motion slides the documents in the stack (12) relative to each other causing the documents to move and rotate towards the feeder gate element so that the leading edge of the stack is aligned before being fed into the document scanner.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to document scanner technology, in particular to a system and method for automatically aligning the leading edge of a document stack after it is loaded into a scanner. Background technique [0002] Typically, document scanners operate by sequentially separating pages from a pile of documents and passing the pages through an imaging device to capture the contents of the pages. There are generally two types of document scanners on the market today: top-feeder scanners and bottom-feeder scanners. Top-feeder scanners feed documents sequentially, one sheet at a time, from the top of the stack of documents to be scanned. Bottom-feeder scanners feed documents sequentially from the bottom of the document stack. Current scanners also include an input tray to hold a stack of input documents to be scanned. Many bottom-feeder scanners include two feeder gates that align the stack of documents as they are placed on the scanner's inp...
