[0018] Example record setup

[0019] figure 1 is a diagram illustrating a recording session in which an audio processing device synchronizes audio signals from different recording devices. Event 100 may be any event that produces audio content (eg, speech, vocals, or instrumental music). In particular, event 100 may be a live performance event, such as a concert, in which one or more instruments and / or one or more singers perform. One or more sound sources may be present at event 100 . Each sound source can be an instrument, singer, speaker, or anything that produces sound. For convenience, in various sections of this specification, sound sources including non-instrument sound sources are collectively referred to as musical instruments. Multiple recording devices record the event 100 . The audio processing device 102 synchronizes the audio signals recorded on the device by aligning the audio signals in time.

Abstract

Methods, systems, and computer program products are described for synchronizing audio signals captured by multiple independent devices during an audio event. A plurality of recording devices, such as a plurality of smartphones, record the audio event. A computer system receives a plurality of audio signals from a device. The system determines a first delay between the two audio signals based on a correlation of the waveforms of the two audio signals. The system then detects the presence of onset in each audio signal by calculating the derivative of the corresponding envelope of each audio signal. The system determines a second delay between the two audio signals based on a correlation of the onsets of the two audio signals. The system synchronizes the audio signal using the second delay when it is determined that the sound quality is improved more using the second delay than using the first delay.

Background technique [0004] A sound event such as a concert or rehearsal may be recorded with multiple devices that are not synchronized in time. For example, multiple members of an audience may use their respective smartphones to record a concert. Multiple members of a band may record their respective performances by placing their equipment close to their respective instruments. In these cases, each person may press the "record" button at a differen...
