Problems solved by technology

Under pressure, the flexible tube deforms, and if the flexible tube is used alone without an inner tube, there is a leakage problem
[0011] Another disadvantage of existing flexible downpipes is that they require brackets that must be attached to the ceiling, thus potentially limiting the types of ceilings and structures to which the flexible downpipe can be installed
[0012] A system that would revolutionize the fire protection industry if it enabled installers to fabricate and install dry sprinklers equivalent to wet sprinkler systems on site without resorting to custom measured and factory-made dry sprinkler assemblies

Embodiment Construction

[0027] In the following description, certain terms are used for convenience only and not for limitation. The words "lower", "bottom", "upper", "top", "front", "rear" and "rear" refer to directions in the drawings to which reference is made. According to the present disclosure, the words "inwardly" and "outwardly" refer to directions toward and away from, respectively, the geometric center of the component in question and designated portions thereof. Unless the context dictates otherwise, "proximal" and "distal" generally refer to directions toward and away from, respectively, the fire protection system component activated by the thermal trigger assembly. Unless expressly stated herein, the terms "a / an" and "the" are not limited to one element, but should actually be read to mean "at least one". The terminology includes the words noted above, derivatives thereof, and words of similar import.

Abstract

A thermal trigger assembly for remote mechanical actuation of another fire protection system component includes an activation component with a distal base, a distal movable member, a proximal base, aproximal movable member, and a bias member biasing the proximal movable member from a preactivation position to an activated position located proximally of the preactivation position. A thermally responsive element is retained by the distal base, loses structural integrity under occurrence of a predetermined thermodynamic condition, and thereby allows the distal movable member to move from a preactivation position to an activated position with respect to the distal base. A flexible connector connects the proximal movable member to the distal movable member. Upon the loss of structural integrity by the thermally responsive element, a biasing force from the bias member causes a movement of the proximal movable member from the preactivation position to the activated position.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to fire protection and, more particularly, to activation components for use in fire protection systems and valves for use in fire protection systems. Background technique [0002] Fire sprinkler systems are installed and operated in accordance with nationally recognized codes. [0003] As noted in US Patent Application Publication No. 2013 / 0199803, dry sprinklers are used in areas that are or may be exposed to freezing conditions, such as freezers, unheated interior areas, walkways, and the like. In a typical dry pipe system, the water supply pipe runs in a space where the water in the water supply pipe does not freeze. Dry sprinklers are attached to such water supply pipes and extend into spaces where the water would otherwise freeze. [0004] As further noted in Publication No. 2013 / 0199803, the typical construction of a dry sprinkler includes a pipe ("downpipe") with a fitting at the inlet end of the pipe (f...
