Embodiment Construction

[0033] refer to figure 1 , which is a simplified representation of an environment (100) for analyzing fault data according to an embodiment of the invention. As shown, a plurality of power system devices (102a, 102b, 102c...) are connected to the server (104). A power system device (PSD) may communicate with the server directly (see connection between device 102a and server 104) or may communicate with the server via another device (see connection between device 102b and server 104 via controller 106). In the latter case, the PSD communicates with a gateway device or controller (106), which in turn communicates with the server. The server may be a cloud-based server. Although in figure 1 A single server / controller is shown, but it should be apparent that there may be multiple servers and / or gateway devices or controllers. As an example, there may be one server for each substation, group of substations or region / zone. One or more data stores (eg, database 108 ) are also pr...

Abstract

The invention provides a system (400) and method for analyzing fault data in a power transmission network. Disturbance data (402a, 402b, 402c) from power system devices is aggregated in response to afault in the power transmission network. One or more fault location techniques (412) are selected for locating the fault, based on device details of the power system devices, and topology of the corresponding power transmission line(s) of the power transmission network. The location of the fault is estimated based on the fault analysis technique (412), the disturbance data (402a, 402b, 402c) received from each of the one or more power system devices, system parameters (418) of the corresponding segment of the power transmission network and geographical information (420) associated with the power transmission network.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to power transmission, and more particularly to analyzing fault data in power transmission networks. Background technique [0002] Power transmission networks have become complex over time. Today's power transmission networks have lines of different topologies distributed over various regions. For example, the network may have different combinations of overhead lines, underground / submarine cables, multi-terminal lines and multi-tap lines, etc. Faults can occur anywhere in the power transmission network. The nature and type of faults vary according to the topology of the line. For example, disturbances due to adverse weather conditions may affect overhead lines and cause momentary failures, while insulation failures in cables may be permanent in nature, leading to service interruptions. Certain faults can propagate and affect connected lines and power system equipment / equipment. [0003] Accurate fault locati...
