A PTC heating element (22) has a casing (72) that joins as a unit at least one PTC element (30), conductor paths (38) electrically connected to the PTC element (30), and insulating layers (34) bearing, in a heat-conductive manner against the PTC element (30). The PTC heating element (30) also has contact strips (42) which project over itself and which are electrically conductively connected tothe conductor paths (38) for energizing the PTC element (30) with different polarities. In order to improve heat decoupling from the PTC element, the receptacle (78), in a cross-sectional view, is defined by two oppositely disposed inner surfaces (88) covering the PTC element (30) and concave cavities, adjoining the inner surfaces (88) and forming the longitudinal edges (88) of the casing (72).
