Abstract

This document describes techniques and apparatuses for a Fifth Generation New Radio enhanced Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH). These techniques include a user equipment (102) transmitting a request message to a base station (104) for a UE-specific format for a downlink control channel. The user equipment (102) then receives, from the base station (104) a downlink control channel message according to the UE-specific format. This allows the user equipment (102) to decode the downlink control channel message based on the UE-specific format indicated in the request message. The user equipment (102) uses the decoded downlink control channel message to obtain downlink control information usable to access encoded data on a downlink shared channel. These techniques reduce the amount of power consumed when decoding the messages on the downlink control channel in comparison to conventional techniques that rely on blind decoding.
