Abstract

A pressure relief device for controlling the outflow of fluid from a surgical site. The pressure relief device includes a cannula body (16) having a proximal end (18) and a distal end (20) with a thread (24) extending along the entire cannula body (16) from the distal end (20). The device also has a proximal end cap (28) connected to the proximal end (18) of the cannula body (16), a spacer (40) connected between the cannula body (16) and the proximal end cap (28), and a proximal seal (104) enclosed between the proximal end cap (28) and the spacer (40). One or more distal seals (106) can be enclosed between the spacer (40) and the proximal end (18) of the cannula body (16). The device additionally includes a channel (42) between the spacer (40) and an inner wall (44) of the proximal end cap(28). Fluid flows out of the device through the channel (42).
