Problems solved by technology

Such an approach relies on having highly synchronized clocks in the different radars, since even the slightest drift between the clocks will eventually cause the radars' scheduled time slots to overlap

Embodiment Construction

[0049] The present invention will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which embodiments of the invention are shown.

[0050] figure 1 Radar system 100 is shown installed to monitor a scene including object 104 . The radar system includes a plurality of radar units 102, here illustrated by a first radar unit 102-1, a second radar unit 102-2, and a third radar unit 102-3. In the illustrated example, the radar unit is stationary and therefore does not move when in use. However, in other embodiments, the radar unit may be mounted to a moving object. For example, three radar units 102-1, 102-1 and 103-3 can be placed on a car.

[0051] The plurality of radar units 102 are of the type that actively transmit and receive signals during time intervals and remain inactive between those time intervals. As an example, plurality of radar units 102 may be continuous wave radars. Additionally, the radar unit 102 is preferably of the sa...

Abstract

Disclosed are a method for radar interference reduction and devices. The method is performed by a radar unit and comprises: receiving one or more radar frames, wherein the one or more radar frames correspond to one or more respective time intervals during which the radar unit was activated to transmit and receive signals to produce data samples of the one or more radar frames; and determining whether the one or more radar frames have a higher presence of data samples that are subject to interference from other radar units in a first half of their corresponding time intervals than in a second, later, half of their corresponding time intervals. In case the presence is higher in the first half of their corresponding time intervals, a scheduled time interval of an upcoming radar frame to be produced by the radar unit is postponed, and otherwise it is advanced.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of radar. Specifically, it relates to reducing interference between radars. Background technique [0002] Radar is used for security monitoring purposes alone or in combination with other sensors. For example, radar can be used for perimeter monitoring, where human intrusion into vehicles in a monitored area is detected. One type of radar used for security monitoring purposes is a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar. FMCW radars transmit frequency-modulated sinusoidal signals, sometimes referred to as chirps, and simultaneously receive echoes of the transmitted signal reflected by objects in front of the radar. The transmitted and received signals are mixed to produce data samples, which are then subjected to frequency analysis to identify the distance and velocity of objects in front of the radar. An FMCW radar is an example of a radar that can be activated to transmit and receive signals dur...
