Problems solved by technology

However, when viewing a patient-specific 3D model, it may be difficult for the user to understand the orientation of the patient-specific 3D model relative to nearby patient anatomy
For example, if a user is viewing a patient-specific 3D model of the tricuspid valve, it may be difficult for the user to determine the location and / or orientation of nearby anatomical structures such as the aortic valve and / or mitral valve
Furthermore, when the user interactively changes the point of view of the patient-specific 3D model, the difficulty of identifying the spatial context of the presented patient-specific 3D model relative to nearby anatomy may increase

Embodiment Construction

[0013] Certain embodiments can be found in a method and system for providing an anatomical orientation indicator of a patient-specific model having an anatomy of interest extracted from a three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound volume. Various embodiments have anatomical orientation indication by presenting one or more simulated patient anatomy models including nearby (e.g., adjacent, surrounding, and / or immediately adjacent) anatomical structures at the same viewpoint as the patient-specific model symbol, providing a technical effect of the visualization of the spatial context of the patient-specific model presented at the display system. Aspects of the present disclosure have the technical effect of updating the viewpoint of the anatomical orientation indicator to match the viewpoint of the patient-specific model when the viewpoint of the patient-specific model is changed.

Abstract

A system and method for providing an anatomical orientation indicator of a patient-specific model having an anatomical structure of interest extracted from a three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound volume is provided. The method includes extracting the anatomical structure of interest from the 3D volume and generating a patient-specific model of the anatomical structure of interest. The method includes generating an anatomical orientation indicator comprising at least one simulated patient anatomy model of anatomy adjacent to the anatomy of interest at a position and orientation relative to the patient-specific model. The method includes displaying the anatomical orientation indicator having the patient-specific model at the same first viewing point. The method includes receiving an instruction to change a viewing point of the patient-specific model to a second viewing point, and updating a display of the anatomical orientation indicator with the patient-specific model to the second viewing point.

Description

technical field [0001] Certain embodiments relate to ultrasound imaging. More specifically, certain embodiments relate to methods and systems for providing an anatomical orientation indicator of a patient-specific model with an anatomy of interest extracted from a three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound volume. The anatomical orientation indicator may include one or more simulated patient anatomy models of nearby anatomy. An anatomical orientation indicator may provide the same point of view as the patient-specific model to present spatial context information to a viewer of the patient-specific model. When the viewpoint of the patient-specific model is changed, the viewpoint of the anatomical orientation indicator may be updated to match the viewpoint of the patient-specific model. Background technique [0002] Ultrasound imaging is a medical imaging technique used to image organs and soft tissues in the human body. Ultrasound imaging uses real-time, non-invasive, high-frequenc...
