Problems solved by technology

However, it has been observed that PCI for the treatment of calcified plaque in coronary arteries often results in insufficient stent expansion, resulting in risk of acute medical events (e.g., restenosis), operative time, radiation dose, and contrast medium dose. Increase

Embodiment Construction

[0025] The present invention generally relates to the assessment of coronary artery calcification in angiographic images. Embodiments of the invention are described herein to give a visual understanding of a method for assessing coronary artery calcification in angiographic images. Digital images often consist of digital representations of one or more objects (or shapes). Digital representations of objects are often described herein in terms of identifying and manipulating objects. Such manipulations are virtual manipulations done in the computer system's memory or other circuitry / hardware. Accordingly, it is to be understood that embodiments of the present invention may be implemented within a computer system using data stored within the computer system.

[0026] Additionally, it should be understood that while the embodiments discussed herein may be discussed with respect to the assessment of coronary artery calcification in angiographic images, the invention is not limite...

Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for training an artificial intelligence model for detecting a calcified portion of a blood vessel in an input medical image. One or more first medical images of a blood vessel in a first modality and one or more second medical images of a blood vessel in a second modality are received. A calcified portion of a blood vessel is detected in one or more first medical images. The artificial intelligence model is trained for detecting a calcified portion of the blood vessel in the input medical image in the second modality based on the one or more second medical images and the calcified portion of the blood vessel detected in the one or more first medical images.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to the assessment of coronary artery calcification in angiographic images, and more particularly to training a machine learning model for assessing coronary artery calcification in angiographic images. Background technique [0002] Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the narrowing of the coronary arteries due to the buildup of plaque, which restricts blood flow to the heart. Significant challenges arise when treating CAD when the plaque is calcified. Specifically, treatment of CAD caused by calcified plaque was associated with higher complication rates and lower associated with success rate. For example, one treatment for CAD is percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), which involves opening narrowed arteries with stents or other devices. However, it has been observed that PCI for the treatment of calcified plaque in coronary arteries often results in insufficient stent expansion, resulting in risk of acute medi...
