Abstract

The invention relates to application of progesterone and structural analogues thereof in preparation of a reagent for inhibiting an envelope virus from entering cells. The invention also relates to the use of progesterone and structural analogues thereof in the preparation of a medicament for resisting envelope virus infection in a subject. The progesterone is proved to be capable of effectively inhibiting invasion of envelope viruses to cells and proliferation in the cells in a non-toxic range, so that the progesterone has a wide application prospect in the fields of related biological research and antiviral drugs in the future.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the antiviral use of progesterone, especially its use in inhibiting the entry of enveloped viruses into cells and thereby exerting antiviral effects. Background technique [0002] Viruses are the most important pathogens that endanger humans and animals, posing serious threats to public safety and aquaculture. These viruses include not only the well-known influenza virus (Orthomyxoviridae), human herpes simplex virus (Herpesviridae), porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (Arteriviridae), but also some other families such as Rhabdoviridae , Coronaviridae, Paramyxoviridae, Poxviridae, and non-enveloped viruses have all brought great trouble to human beings. Taking the influenza virus as an example, it has been circulating in humans for more than 300 years, with an outbreak in a few years and a global pandemic in a few decades. It can lead to 250,000 to 500,000 deaths and 3 to 5 million severe cases per yea...
