Abstract

A parking assist system with improved avoidance steering control and a method thereof are provided. The parking assistance system includes: a sensor fusion calculation module that fuses sensing data of an ultrasonic sensor and image data of an SVM camera to calculate position information of an object with respect to a current position of a vehicle; and the parking assisting module avoids the object based on the position information and executes steering control on the vehicle to realize autonomous parking. The parking assistance system accurately detects an object located at a position deviating from a field of view (FOV) of an ultrasonic sensor and performs robust avoidance steering on surrounding objects during autonomous parking.
