Abstract

A knock determining apparatus for internal combustion engine to enhance knocking detection accuracy by determining a deviation of a resonance frequency by a simple determination means and correcting the deviation of the resonance frequency based on the determined result. A detection output of a knock sensor 12 for detecting knocking of the internal combustion engine 11 is filtered by a filter 14 which is variable in a filter frequency band, and an output of the filter 14 is discriminated with a determination level previously set by a level discrimination means 15. A counter 16 counts the number of times c in which the detection output of the knock sensor 12 is more than the determination level, and the determination means 17 determines presence or absence of the knocking based on the number of times c. When the presence or absence of the knocking can not be determined in response to the output of the determination means 17, a correction means 18 carries out correction so as to deviate the filter frequency band of the filter 14, whereby the presence or absence of the knocking can be determined, thereby enhancing the knocking detection accuracy.
