Abstract

A vehicle air conditioner including a refrigerating circuit including a variable displacement compressor (40) driven by a vehicle engine (E). The air conditioner includes a control valve (CV) for changing the displacement of the compressor and an ECU (72) for controlling the control valve. The control valve has bellows (48; 90), valve body (46) and coil (61). The ECU moves the valve body by energizing the coil to apply a force opposite to the movement of the bellows to the valve body, thereby changing the displacement of the compressor. This changes the amount of movement of the bellows. When the engine is idling, the air conditioner control unit gradually changes the force applied by the coil to the valve body, thereby adjusting the pressure difference and changing the displacement of the compressor.
