Problems solved by technology

[0005] However, a disadvantage of such a mobile communication terminal is that, since two antennas and two radio frequency receivers are used together, the consumption of battery power is large.
Also, the amount of load imposed on hardware and software for various controls related to the two radio frequency receivers is large

Embodiment Construction

[0012] Several embodiments of the present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the drawings, the same symbols designate the same or similar elements, although these elements are, of course, described in different drawings. In addition, in the following description, for the sake of conciseness, a detailed description of known functions and structural configurations included herein is omitted.

[0013] Referring to Fig. 1, this figure shows the structure of a mobile communication terminal according to an embodiment of the present invention. The mobile communication terminal includes two antennas and two radio frequency (RF) receivers utilizing a space diversity technique to provide a high data rate (HDR) service. As shown in FIG. 1, the mobile communication terminal includes two antennas ANT1 and ANT2. The first antenna ANT1 is installed on the body of the mobile communication terminal. Preferably, the first antenna ANT1 is...

Abstract

A method for controlling an operation of a mobile communication terminal for providing a high-speed data rate (HDR) service. The mobile communication terminal comprises first and second antennas, a first radio frequency (RF) module connected to the first antenna and having an RF transmitter and an RF receiver, and a second RF module connected to the second antenna and having a dedicated RF receiver If a current mode of the mobile communication terminal is a traffic mode for providing the HDR service, battery power is supplied to both the first and second RF modules and signal processing associated with the first and second RF modules is performed. If the current mode of the mobile communication terminal is not the traffic mode for providing the HDR service, a supply of the battery power is blocked to the second RF module and the signal processing associated with the first RF module is performed. Rates of high-speed data received through the first and second antennas are periodically checked while the mobile communication terminal is in the traffic mode. If a current one of the high-speed data rates is higher than a predetermined threshold value, the supply of the battery power is blocked to the second RF module and the signal process associated with the first RF module is performed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to mobile communication terminals, and more particularly to a method of controlling the operation of a mobile communication terminal capable of providing high data rate services. Background technique [0002] Recently, some mobile communication companies are preparing to implement a high data rate service (HDR) capable of improving the quality of high-speed wireless Internet service when connected with Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) 2000-1x. This is made possible because the HDR service does not support separate voice services, but has good data transfer capabilities over existing high speed wired Internet services. [0003] Provides HDR services for the commercial application of CDMA2000-1x Evolved Data-Only Service (EVDO), which is considered to be a very high-speed wireless data communication service based on second-generation networks, and is considered to be a synchronous International Mobile Telecommu...
