Embodiment Construction

[0008] Referring to the accompanying drawings, a crew member 1 wears a helmet 2 which is fastened tightly on the head by strapping it. The helmet 2 is equipped with an external visor 3 or the like (eg reflector, windshield). These are designed by standard type. Built-in goggles 4 are installed inside the helmet 2, which are curved so that their impact on the wearer's peripheral vision is minimized. The built-in visor 4 has a soft rubber edge 5 ensuring a peripheral seal between the wearer's forehead and the vertical edge of the visor 4 . There is no perimeter seal at the bottom of the visor 4 . The built-in goggles 4 are installed and positioned by being installed on the helmet 2 . A soft, standard-type oronasal mask 6 is worn in the usual manner, but does not seal well between it and the section of the built-in goggle 4 that passes through the bridge of the nose or other areas.

Abstract

With reference to figure (2), a helmet (2) for an aircraft crew member (1) is provided with a device (10) for forming an eye-shielding curtain (11) of air in front of the crew members eyes. The air exhausts to the ambient atmosphere (9) by way of an escape path (12) beneath the lower edge of the visor (4), as indicated by arrow (13).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to eye protection, particularly but not exclusively for aircraft crewmembers. Background technique [0002] Under certain operating conditions, aircrews sometimes experience eye irritation from the ambient atmosphere. These conditions may be due to chemical warfare agents or other accidents, some of which could affect flight safety or the ability to perform precise missions. Contents of the invention [0003] It is an object of the present invention to at least reduce the occurrence of the above-mentioned problems. [0004] According to the invention, an eye protection device comprising an eye shielding air curtain is placed in front of the eyes. [0005] The present invention has many applications and is particularly, but not exclusively, provided for a helmet including eye protection. The helmet also includes the crew helmet. Description of drawings [0006] An embodiment of the present invention is described bel...
