Abstract

A method for providing location privacy. A mobile node, identified by its permanent address is addressable by a temporary address. A correspondent node, in communication with the mobile node, always sends its packets to the permanent address. These packets are intercepted by an agent, similar to the mobile IP home agent, which then tunnels these packets to the temporary address. Thereby the mobile node's temporary address, from which the mobile node's location can be derived, is not revealed to the correspondent node. For route optimization, a server entity maintaining records of the agents and their positions is introduced which dynamically allocates on per connection basis an agent to a mobile node.
