Embodiment Construction

[0012] image 3 A first preferred embodiment is shown, comprising two network elements NEA and NEB implementing the method of the invention; each network element comprising a transmitter (TXA and TXB) for sending said frames and a transmitter for receiving said frames The receivers (RXA and RXB) of the frame also include a microprocessor. NEA and NEB are two terminal network units, i.e. the network unit at the end of the connection, while an intermediate network unit can be placed between NEA and NEB: in this way, the connection is divided into connection segments, each of which connects two network units . At least two forward connections along different routes are provided from NEA to NEB, and usually the same number of connections (two-way connections) as from NEB to NEA. According to encapsulating into GFP frame and mapping to VC of SDH network according to packet concatenation, Ethernet frame is transmitted through the connection from NEA to NEB and from NEB to NEA. Abstract

A method is described for optimizing the transmission of Ethernet frames over different connections with different latencies in telecommunication networks to avoid overflow of receive queues. The method includes measuring the delay of the connection, collecting the delay value, defining a range of valid values, comparing the delay value with the defined range, and carrying the Ethernet over the connection whose delay value is within the defined range network frame.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of telecommunications, and in particular to the transmission of Ethernet frames over SDH / SONET / OTN networks. The invention relates more particularly to a method of optimizing the transmission of Ethernet frames carried between two network elements over several connections with different delays. Background technique [0002] As defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in ITU-T G.7041 / Y1303 (12 / 2001), Ethernet frames are carried in telecommunication networks according to encapsulation into GFP (Generic Frame Procedure) frames of. Referring to FIG. 1 , a GFP frame includes a payload field carrying the Ethernet frame (without a preamble (Preamble) and a start frame delimiter (Start of Frame Delimiter)) and a header field. Some fields are mandatory and shown with solid lines, others are optional and shown with dashed lines. Ethernet frames have a variable length, and thus the GFP frame encapsul...
