Transparant non-disruptable ATM network

A method and apparatus for the transparent, non-disruptable transfer of data, particularly multimedia data, through any packet-based network, such as an ATM network is provided. The method of the present invention includes the step of setting a primary path and a secondary path between nodes of a network, or of a network domain. Accordingly, when a switch or node establishes a Virtual Path (VP) to another switch with specified effective bandwidth, it also has an alternate VP that is available, although no bandwidth is actually used. The method of the present invention further includes the step of optimizing the available capacity of the system through management actions. For handling congestion and resource failures, the total effective bandwidth on each physical link is categorized in terms of idle capacity (unused or available), used capacity (for existing VPs), and spare capacity. When a resource failure occurs, the idle capacity is used for real-time switching of the VP and service is not disrupted. This is accomplished by an alarm indication management cell which is delivered when a resource problem is encountered. This management cell sets forth the secondary path and the bandwidth associated therewith. On the other hand, if idle capacity does not exist, the spare capacity is used, while the bandwidth of all other VPs is reconfigured using virtual bandwidth optimization. Therefore, service disruption does not occur. In a wireless, mobile network, the present invention monitors node movement and takes management actions on the basis of such node movement to prevent service disruption.

Bandwidth allocation for video-on-demand networks

Methods for the optimal allocation of bandwidth among a plurality of video-on-demand (VOD) programs available on each link of a VOD tree network, where a server at the root node of the tree network broadcasts the multiple VOD programs. Each node in the network has demands for a subset of the programs and each link connecting nodes in the network has a limited amount of available bandwidth capacity. The available bandwidth is allocated on each link optimally among all programs that are carried on that link. The bandwidth allocated to a specific program may be different on different links of the network, as the bandwidth allocated may be decreased, but not increased, from one link to the next along the paths from the root node to the destination nodes. The methods use equitable resource allocation models with a lexicographic minimax objective function. The first method finds optimal solutions while satisfying the capacity constraints on all links, tree-like ordering constraints for the bandwidth allocated to each of the programs, and lower and upper bounds on bandwidth allocation for each program. The second method finds optimal solutions to a more restrictive scheme that imposes additional constraints which require equal bandwidth allocation for a specific program on all relevant links emanating from the same node.

Bandwidth optimization of video program bearing transport streams

A method and system are provided for remultiplexing program bearing data. The remultiplexing method and system are applicable to MPEG-2 compliant transport streams carrying video programs. A descriptor based system is used for scheduling the timely output of transport packets wherein each descriptor records a dispatch time as well as a receipt time for each transport packet. The receipt time is used for estimating program clock reference adjustments, but final program clock reference adjustment is performed in hardware in relation to the precise output timing of each transport packets. A descriptor and transport packet caching technique is used for decoupling the synchronous receipt and transmission of transport packets from any asynchronous processing performed thereon. The descriptors can also be used for managing scrambling and descrambling control words (encryption and decryption keys). Remultiplexing functions may be distributed across a network. The remultiplexer can furthermore optimize the bandwidth of transport streams by replacing null transport packets with transport packet data to be inserted into the output transport stream. Program data transmitted via asynchronous communication links is re-timed and assistance is provided for outputting program data on such asynchronous communication links to reduce a variation in end-to-end delay incurred by the program data. Remultiplexing and program specific information can be seamlessly dynamically varied without stopping, or introducing a discontinuity in, the flow of outputted transport packets. A technique is also provided for locking multiple internal reference clock generators.

Wind power fluctuation probability density modeling method based on nonparametric kernel density estimation

The present invention provides a wind power fluctuation probability density modeling method based on nonparametric kernel density estimation. The method comprises the following steps: 1, extracting a fluctuation amount of wind power sample data by wavelet decomposition; 2, establishing a corresponding nonparametric kernel density estimation model based on a fluctuation amount sample, and then aiming at the model bandwidth selection problem, constructing a constrained bandwidth optimization model which uses a goodness-of-fit test as a constraint condition; and 3, solving the optimization model by using a constrained sequence optimization algorithm. According to the present invention, due to adoption of the wavelet decomposition method, a wind power fluctuation component can be more precisely extracted; moreover, a probability characteristic modeling method of the extracted fluctuation component is entirely driven by the sample data without performing prior subjective assumption on the probability density model, so that the method has higher modeling accuracy and applicability; and an improvement strategy aiming at the nonparametric kernel density estimation method also enables modeling accuracy and computing efficiency of the method to be effectively improved.

The invention provides a method for realizing remote rapid backup by utilizing a common Internet network. The method is characterized in that a fingerprint technique is adopted to identify a specific file from the redundant backup of the whole enterprise, so that the transmission and storage of redundant data are not required, and the quantity of data transmitted on a wide area network is greatly reduced. The method comprises the following steps of: only installing lightweight agent software for a small-size remote branch structure; for a large-middle-size remote branch structure, distributing a storage pool which consists of a wave server and a storage array and is used for storing the data of the branch structure; distributing a large-size storage pool in a headquarter backup center; carrying out global repeated data deletion on the data of the remote branch structure and then transmitting to the headquarter backup center through the wide area network; transmitting the data of the backup center to a remote disaster tolerance center through a broadband optimization mode so as to achieve the remote concentrated backup and the remote disaster tolerance of enterprise data at the wide area network environment; and locally implementing global unique file and field section identification by the lightweight agent software installed on a client. According to the invention, increment data just need to be transmitted on the network, so that the backup broadband is reduced by 50% or above.
