1175 results about "Internet network" patented technology

What is Internet The internet in simple terms is a network of the interlinked computer networking worldwide, which is accessible to the general public. These interconnected computers work by transmitting data through a special type of packet switching which is known as the IP or the internet protocol.

Multimedia surveillance and monitoring system including network configuration

A comprehensive, wireless multimedia surveillance and monitoring system provides a combination of megapixel digital camera capability with full motion video surveillance with a network, including network components and appliances such as wiring, workstations, and servers with the option of geographical distribution with various wide area carriers. The full service, multi-media surveillance system is capable of a wide range of monitoring techniques utilizing digital network architecture and is adapted for transmitting event data, video and / or image monitoring information, audio signals and other sensor and detector data over significant distances using digital data transmission over a LAN, wireless LAN, Intranet or Internet for automatic assessment and response including dispatch of response personnel. Both wired and wireless appliance and sensor systems may be employed. GPS dispatching is used to locate and alert personnel as well as to indicate the location of an event. Automatic mapping and dispatch permits rapid response. The wireless LAN connectivity permits local distribution of audio, video and image data over a relatively high bandwidth without requirement of a license and without relying on a common carrier and the fees associated therewith. The surveillance system may be interfaced with a WAN (wide area Network) or the Internet for providing a worldwide, low cost surveillance system with virtually unlimited geographic application. Centralized monitoring stations have access to all of the surveillance data from various remote locations via the Internet or the WAN. A server provides a centralized location for data collection, alarm detection and processing, access control, dispatch processing, logging functions and other specialized functions. The server may be inserted virtually anywhere in the Intranet / Internet network. The topology of the network will be established by the geographic situation of the installation. Appropriate firewalls may be set up as desired. The server based system permits a security provider to have access to the appliance and sensor and surveillance data or to configure or reconfigure the system for any station on the network.

Computer interface method and apparatus with portable network organization system and targeted advertising

A method and apparatus for providing an automatically upgradeable software application includes targeted advertising based upon demographics and user interaction with the computer. The software application includes a display region used for banner advertising that is downloaded over a network such as the Internet. The software application is accessible from a server via the network and demographic information on the user is acquired by the server and used for determining what advertising will be sent to the user. The software application further targets the advertisements in response to normal user interaction with the computer. Data associated with each advertisement is used by the software application in determining when a particular advertisement is to be displayed. This includes the specification of certain programs that the user may have so that, when the user runs the program (e.g., a spreadsheet program), a relevant advertisement will be displayed (e.g., an advertisement for a stock brokerage). This provides two-tiered, real-time targeting of advertising—both demographically and reactively. The software application includes programming that accesses the server to determine if one or more components of the application need upgrading. If so, the components can be downloaded and installed without further action by the user. A distribution tool is provided for software distribution and upgrading over the network. Also provided is a user profile that is accessible to any computer on the network. Furthermore, multiple users of the same computer can possess Internet web resources and files that are personalized, maintained and organized.

System server for channel-based internet network

A system server for a channel-based network including one or more Internet sites and one or more user terminals. The system server includes a channel table database storing a master channel table that includes a list of channel numbers, each channel number having an associated Internet address and an associated Internet site name. Each Internet site of the network is addressable by an associated Internet address stored in the master channel table. The system server includes a network database and an update manager database. The system server identifies each user terminal requesting service by comparing transmitted identification information with authorized user information stored in the network database. The system server also compares a channel table version number from the requesting user terminal with a version number stored in the update manager database that is associated with the master channel table, and notifies each requesting user terminal when updated channel table information is available. At each user terminal, a user reads the channel numbers and associated Internet site names from a menu displaying the downloaded channel table, selects an Internet site name from the displayed menu, and enters the channel number associated with the selected Internet site name using an input device that is similar to a television remote control.

System and method for home automation using wireless control rf remocon module based on network

A home automation system using an infrared (IR)/radio frequency (RF) integration remote control module based on a network. At least one IR/RF integration remote control module (100) is disposed at a predetermined location of a home automation region. The IR/RF integration remote control module (100) with a wireless interface function integrates an RF modulation/reception/transmission function and an IR modulation/reception/transmission. A set-top box (200) is appropriately disposed so that it can carry out an interface function for controlling the IR/RF integration remote control module (100) and a wired/wireless Internet access function. The set-top box (200) receives various control commands over an Internet network using transmission control protocol/Internet protocol (TCP/IP) and controls the IR/RF integration remote control module (100). Even though various pieces of equipment using the conventional IR reception/transmission scheme or a new electronic product equipped with an RF module is added to the home automation system using an RF modulation scheme, an automation operation and a bidirectional control operation based on the integrated IR and RF transmission scheme can be appropriately carried out. Thus, the home automation system and method can be cost-effectively and conveniently implemented.

System and method for accessing clusters of servers from the internet network

A cluster system and method accesses from an internet network, a network server within one or a plurality of clusters, each cluster being identified by a single cluster public Internet Protocol (IP) address. The cluster system has a plurality of network servers organized in one of a plurality of clusters and a network load balancer system for selecting a destination network server in a cluster. Each cluster has one or a plurality of identical network servers, the network load balancer system being connected on one hand to an access routing device and on another hand to the plurality of network servers through a private network server subnet. The method includes the steps of at initialization time, on each network server defining, as a non-advertising alias, in an interface table, the public IP address of each cluster to which the network server belongs, and upon reception, by the network load balancing system, of a datagram having an IP header including a destination IP address field and a medium access control (MAC) header including a destination MAC address field, selecting a destination network server within the cluster corresponding to the cluster public IP address identified in the destination IP address field of the datagram IP header, replacing the destination medium access control (MAC) address field of the datagram MAC header by the MAC address of the selected destination network server, and sending the datagram through the private network server subnet, using the MAC address of the selected destination network server. Upon reception, by the destination network server, of the datagram sent by the network load balancing system, the MAC address in the destination MAC address field of the datagram MAC header is identified as being the MAC address of the selected destination network server, and the IP datagram is processed if the identified cluster public IP address in the destination IP address field of the datagram IP header, is defined as a non-advertising alias in the interface table of the destination network server.

Targeted network video download interface

A system provides a user with free Internet network access, in which an access control system sends video advertising files to a user who gains access to the Internet through a network connection that includes a viewer program that operates independently of the user's browser and e-mail programs. The viewer receives ads from the access control system and manages an ad pool that collects multiple video advertising files. Video advertising files are downloaded when the user is not actively using the bandwidth of the Internet connection to download Internet content of the user's choosing. The viewer program periodically opens a viewer window, which opens on top of any other open windows, and in which a video ad from the ad pool is displayed. When one or more video ads are finished, the viewer window is hidden or made an inactive window for a quiet interval. At the conclusion of the quiet interval, the viewer window is activated and the next ad in the ad pool is displayed. The viewer program cycles through existing ads in the ad pool until a new ad is received from the access server. The viewer program manages the ad pool such that the oldest ad is discarded when a new ad is received, and such that each ad is displayed or viewed in order of download for the average time it takes to download an ad in the ad pool. This ensures that ad viewing can continuously cycle through the ad pool with the minimum of repetition, and with no interruption to the user's Internet experience.
